Porsche repair in Salida CO.
13 years on these cars, plus supporting independent race teams. I work on all of them, from the old air cooled with CIS to the new 992.
CIS is mechanical. No computer, no fault codes. You have to measure it. System pressure, control pressure cold and warm, rest pressure after you shut it off, and the air flow plate set to spec. These numbers tell you if the problem is the fuel distributor, the warm up regulator, the accumulator, or just a tired pump. Most people guess instead of measuring. That is why so many of these cars run bad for years.
I will tell you straight, EFI conversion makes a better car. But if you want to keep the original CIS, I rebuild it and set it up right and it runs how it should. You decide. I just give you my opinion first.
New cars are the opposite problem. The 992 and the current engines are locked down. You need PIWIS to get in, and for some jobs you need engineering level access to the software. I have both.
In between it is normal work. IMS, rear main seals, air oil separators, carbon on direct injection, PDK fluid on time, coolant fittings on the SUVs.
On the 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8 I scope for bore scoring before anything else. If it is there, it changes what you should do with the whole car. Find it later and you pay twice.
Mezger engines, the coolant pipes are glued from factory and they come loose. They need to be pinned or welded. On a car this old it should be done already.
If nobody can find the fault in your car, that is the work I want.
