Hi, I’m Piotr Slabiak, the founder and sole technician at Backshop Technik. It started as a kid in Poland, watching a technician chase an electrical fault on a 1992 Opel Kadett GSI. Wires and diagnostic tools spread everywhere, and I was genuinely amazed by it. From then on I knew what I wanted to do.
I Grew Up Around This
My first car, a 1977 Fiat 125p, was my training ground. It broke down about weekly, which turned out to be a good education. From 2002 I was working on European cars full time, eight years at a shop in New Jersey before moving to Colorado. Then 3zero3 Motorsports in Wheat Ridge, and Black Canyon Performance in Arvada from 2016.
Denver to Chaffee County
Eventually I moved into high-end street and performance cars. After years of that pace, and the Denver traffic, I wanted a change. I fell in love with Chaffee County and settled here. The work is the same as it was in Denver. The drive home is better.
Why I Stayed
I came for the riding and stayed for everything else. Between the dirt bikes, mountain bikes, singletrack, and the quiet, it is just a good place to be.
At Backshop Technik it is just me. Your car gets my full attention, not handed off to whoever is free. I am based full time in Salida now, covering the Upper Arkansas Valley: Salida, Poncha Springs, Buena Vista and the surrounding area. Local or just passing through, either is fine.
Disclaimer Every car on this site is one I worked on. Some are from the shop here in Salida, others go back through twenty years at previous shops and with the racing teams I supported. They are all mine in the sense that I did the work, not that I owned them.
